The Foundation welcomes applications from Nursing Staff for the

2023 Elizabeth O’Dwyer Research Medal & Travel Bursary for Innovation in Nursing

The Award was established to honour Elizabeth O’Dwyer for her contribution to Nursing. Ms O’Dwyer was Matron/Director of Nursing at the Meath Hospital. She actively supported any means of improving the education of nurses, promoting facilities for the on-going education of registered nurses and courses in specialised nursing.

She was also instrumental in introducing the idea of a degree for nursing, which led to discussions between the Meath and Adelaide Hospitals and Trinity College. Today Nurse Education is University based. She was a strong clinical leader with clear authority at ward level, was highly visible, accessible and easily identifiable by patients and placed high value of the importance of fundamental nursing care.

The successful applicant will be awarded the Elizabeth O’Dwyer Research Medal and Travel Bursary in the amount of €2,500.
