Special Research Grant into Cancer Prevention: Dr Barbara Loftus – Functional expression and regulatory profiles of prostate cancer – development of a detailed molecular profile of prostate cancer and its precursor lesion prostates intraepithelial neoclassic.
Professor Kevin Conlon: – miRNA profiling of Pancreatic Carcinoma
Dr Louise Gallagher: – Facial emotional recognition and relationship to social communication in Autism and ADHD
Dr Ann Marie McLaughlin: – To assess the role of the MAL Functional variant in MRSA Positive and MRSA Negative patients
Dr Maria O'Sullivan: – Investigation into the underlying mechanisms in irritable bowel syndrome: the role of mast cells and intestinal permeability.
Professor Ian Graham: – The development of an interactive electronic tool to aid cardiovascular disease prevention.
Dr James Gibney: – Prevention of diabetes and cardiovascular disease by dietary intervention in women with PCOS

We would like to congratulate the successful applicants and wish them well in their work. We would like to thank the unsuccessful applicants for the very high calibre proposals submitted. There was very stiff competition.
The Board of Directors wish to take this opportunity to thank our external assessors for their willingness to devote great time and effort to these projects. Their work is greatly appreciated.
Since 2002 The Foundation has supported 38 research projects at the Hospital and has awarded a total of €1.25 million in Research Grants. This funding has assisted in increasing research output for the benefit of the Hospital and the wider community.
The call for Research Grant applications for 2009 will be made in November 2008. Details will be posted on our web-site www.meathfoundation.com and throughout the Hospital. The closing date will be February 2009.
