Research Grant Awards 2007
The Meath Foundation was very pleased to receive 19 applications for Research Grants this year. A panel of external assessors independently assessed each application. Following this rigorous assessment the Board of Directors of The Foundation are please to announce the awarding of Research Grants to:
Professor Kevin Conlon, Professor of Surgery
The aim of this project is to investigate the role of the proteasome in pancreatic cancer cell lines.
Doctor Barbara Ryan, Consultant Gastroenterologist
Research into Inflammatory bowel disease
Doctor Barbara Loftus, Consultant Histopathologist
Research into Prostate cancer
Doctor Jonathan Collins, Medical Scientist
Research into Cystic fibrosis
The Special Project Grant for 2007 for research into Kidney Disease was awarded to
Doctor Catherine Wall, Consultant Nephrologist
and
Doctor George Mellotte, Consultant Nephrologist
We wish to thank everyone who helped to raise money during the year for this special grant
Junior/First Time Researcher
Due to the number and quality of applications received this year the External Assessors were of the view that Junior/First Time Researchers were at a disadvantage especially with the new scoring system. They recommended that The Foundation consider awarding an additional grant to encourage first time Researchers. Following consideration of this proposal by the Research Committee and their recommendations to the Board of Directors we are pleased to announce the awarding of a Research Grant in this category to:
Ms Rebecca Sowman, Speech & Language Therapist
The aim of this project is to investigate the origins of communication breakdown in Alzheimer’s Disease
